The Homeschool Diary

Secondhand book

I've created a new addition to this website and if you look at the page links over in the far right sidebar you'll see it. I frequently receive questions about homeschooling and I'm always happy to share information about curriculum, etc. so I decided to create a microblog, so to speak, of links to resources, photos, and other small things related to homeschooling. I plan to update it daily, save for weekends and holidays, and will be chronicling a lot of our everyday homeschooling experiences on it.

The book in the photo above was purchased at a secondhand store, a regular activity that may be adversely affected considering recent legislation. FUN! Apparently Herr Uncle Sam doesn't care if YOU or I eat lead. Just the kids. I feel so unloved. More on this later.

It appears from some of the articles in the news lately that consignment, used clothing and social agency stores will be able to over look the new regulations and we will still be able to buy clothes at Good Will, Value Village, etc. Looks like someone decided to try and actually think things through – imagine that!

Do you frequently put non-food items in your mouth such that Uncle Sam NEEDS to be concerned about your lead intake?

[this is not a comment for or against the legislation, per se, just ... ]

perfect. after reading your article yesterday I feel so motivated and excited. i know mine are young, but everyone is always talking about montessori this and special pre-school that, and i do not want to get sucked into that world. nothing against it, we just do not have a dime to spare for that level. looking forward to the mini blogging.

Lovin' the Homeschool Diary! Great addition!!

FabUlous! I am 95% certain that we will be homeschooling my oldest two next year. I talked to them about it and they are SO excited!

Most vinyl contains lead. As it breaks down the lead leaches to the surface as a fine white powder. (ie the "dust" on mini blinds). Could you imagine a recall of that magnitude? Whole suburbs....gone. :)

Coming out of lurking to let you know that I've left you a little award over at my blog. :)

I think the focus is on kids due to the fact that research shows lead ingestion having a significantly greater (even primary) impact on growing and developing bodies...plus I'm sure there is research somewhere that proves most adults don't use their brains, anyway!

I'm sure that the legislation WAS rushed through as a result of the rash of toxic Chinese products that kept turning up!

Glad it is getting straightened out, we buy most of our clothes from second-hand shows.

Oh, my daughter and I both laughed out loud when you mentioned how you or Chris might accidentally eat a button from your clothes on "The Dana Show" last night!
