This particular piece owes its beauty to Ewan, who took to the dry erase board while his brother played a math game on the computer. I love the way a child's skill translates what they see in their mind - or the way their young mind interprets what they see. It always comes out looking like it was processed through some Mad Hatter filter and I enjoy watching it; it's one of my favorite things about parenthood.
But seriously, I have no idea what this is supposed to be. A dog? Zero from "Nightmare Before Christmas?" A ghost? Montauk Monster? I like it, whatever it is.
*Ewan finally told me (after laughing and saying nothing) that is was a crocodile. Makes sense.

If you didn't mention it, I wouldn't have recognized him- but he does look exactly like Zero!
I just have to ask... how in the world did you know Montauk Monster is, seriously? :)
i just took a language development class in my master's program and we discussed the evolution of kids' drawing and the significance of each of the steps in their development. it's really interesting. he's older than the kids, i was learning about in there, but i just love pictures like these and i think it's awesome to see them!
p.s. i used firefox for a realllly long time and recently switched to google chrome. it doesn't have a lot of extensions yet, but it is crazy fast and i haven't had nearly as many crashes as i had with firefox.

Wow, Dana! Ewan's drawing totally rocks my socks, especially in the way that it almost seems like an optical illusion. I like the way that it seems to have a flat body with a 3-D sort of head. Is the bottom part under the head supposed to be the bottom part of the jaw or a corner of its body? It's a mystery, wrapped in a paradox, surrounded by an enigma! I think Ewan might have discovered a heretofore unknown specie of Pokemon. 100 cool points to Ewan!
A T-Rex gets my vote.
I think it looks like a dinosaur with really stubby legs. Like a dinosaur head on an alligator body. Whatever it is it's great. My kids are in the phase where we only color on one spot of the paper - over and over until its ripped through. Can't really hang those on the fridge
There is nothing greater for kids than a dry erase board to stimulate all kinds of learning and experimenting.
It's the modern-day Etch-a-Sketch!
I credit the one we propped up in my daughter's room to getting her interested in reading. She loves to write things on it.
I know this doesn't go with the post-
But I know that Elvis in the picture! I thought it was funny because My family always goes to this place "skips" off broadway and he does karoke there!
